All Terrain Powered Parachute?

It may look like something out of a James Bond movie, but it's for real. A Canadian company named Para-Ski International has designed what they call an ATV/ASV powered parachute - all terrain vehicle/all season vehicle.

"We feel we have the most advanced and versatile powered parachute in the industry." Says Para-Ski International. "The fact that Para-Ski is designed as a cart with an enclosure around you provides you with an extra sense of security. Too windy to fly today? No Problem. You can still enjoy your Para-Ski on the water. Attach the lightweight floats and go boating or fishing. Or attach the skis and o for a ride over snow covered terrain."

Here are some of the Para-Ski's unique features: 4-wheel design (instead of the usual three wheels) for increased stability; lightweight floats for use on water or in marshes; lightweight skis for use on snow and ice; braking system for quick stops; gravel shield to protect the propeller; high-performance canopy; split rear rudder control; handlebar steering; and thumb throttle control.

The Para-Ski comes in both single- and 2-seat configurations. The single-seater weighs in at 240 pounds empty weight, while the 2-seater tips the scales at 340 pounds empty weight. The company says both maximum and cruise speeds are 40 mph.

"Actually, the Para-ski has been in development for the last 6 years, and we now feel it has reached a stage of development where it can make an impact on the world of ultralights," says Para-Ski International. "We are now in the process of building our 1997 models. The machines will be built on a per order basis and in complete form only."
